Bodegas Mas Que Vinos, Toledo, Central Spain
Three winemakers whose friendship started in Rioja in 1998 when the trio; Margarita Madrigal, Alexandra Schmedes and Gonzalo Rodriguez met and broke bread over their unique experiences in winemaking. Now, the three are united around a comittment to organic farming, sustainability and rescuing old plots of indigenous grape varieties.

A TRIO OF WINEMAKERS
WITH NO TIME FOR WASTE.
The foundation for their own winery dates back to 1851 to Gonzalo’s family winery in Dosbarrios, located in the Mesa de Ocaña, close to Toledo. Here they started their own winery in 1999, basing their winemaking philosophy on the essential role of the indigenous grape varieties: Cencibel, Garnacha, Airén and Malvar. Located close to the winery, on their farm FINCA EL HORCAJO, they currently cultivate 35 hectares of organically farmed vineyard, as well as 35 hectares of old bush vines, some over 80 years old.
All work in the vineyard is completed by hand, whilst farming is carried out
organically and without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilisers. In order to protect the environment, they are trying to reduce their emissions, reuse as much material as they can and recycle all by-products. Plus, the indigenous grape varieties (mostly old bush vines) receive the nutrition and water that they need from the ground. And their commitment doesn’t stop there. Access to freshwater is limited, so they collect rainwater and use it to clean
the floors in the winery and to water the garden and olive trees.
